Training as a speech and language therapist
"Logopädin"/"Logopäde" (the German professional titles) have been legally protected since 1980. The three-year training takes place at a state-recognised vocational school for speech therapy — we don't offer our own training programme as a practice, but pupils from these schools are welcome to complete practical training segments (block internships) with us.
Duration
Usually three years, organised at a vocational school for speech therapy.
Qualification
State examination to become a speech and language therapist.
Requirements
Usually an intermediate school-leaving certificate and health fitness (medical certificate).

Good news for North Rhine-Westphalia: the state covers 100% of the tuition fees charged by the training institution (retroactively since 1 January 2021). Details in the official press release of the NRW state government (German).

Before your training
Many vocational schools require or recommend a preliminary internship. We're happy to offer you an internship with us to get a first taste of the profession beforehand.
