Frequently asked questions
Case history & assessment
The initial assessment is about determining the need for therapy. We test, for example, articulation, vocabulary, language comprehension, grammar/syntax or breathing and voice function. We also get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere and, if needed, talk about our clients' concerns, questions and wishes. We then develop an individual therapy plan.
Therapy
In therapy, we see our clients regularly (at the practice or, if needed, on a home visit) and carry out the appropriate, specific exercises. We also discuss the course of therapy and give guidance for independent practice.
Counselling
We want our clients to leave with no question unanswered and to enjoy lasting therapy success. That's why we provide thorough information about the content and course of treatment and give guidance for everyday life. We're happy to advise you and, if needed, issue a speech-therapy report.
Diagnostics
Whether prompted by a question, a doctor's recommendation or your own interest — our speech-therapy initial assessment creates clarity and determines how to proceed together. The aim is to identify the right course of action: counselling, therapy or parent training.
Home visits
We also come to you or your relative if you're unable to visit us at the practice. Whether at home, in assisted living or in a senior care facility — with a doctor's prescription, we visit you in the immediate area.
Parent seminars
Children whose language development is delayed need appropriate support from their parents. You can learn how this kind of language-supportive everyday interaction succeeds from early childhood onward as part of the Heidelberg Parent Training — in small groups.
How do I get speech therapy treatment?
Speech therapy treatment must be prescribed by a doctor and takes place as individual or group therapy. The first appointment should take place within 28 days of the prescription being issued, as it otherwise loses its validity.
Who covers the costs?
The cost of speech therapy is usually covered by statutory health insurers. To arrange this, it's important to speak with your doctor: they decide whether a prescription can be issued. We then bill your health insurer directly after treatment.
Costs for private patients
Privately insured and beihilfe-eligible patients receive an invoice according to the fee schedule for speech therapy. Whether and to what extent your private health insurance covers the costs depends on your specific tariff — on request, we're happy to prepare a cost estimate for you in advance. Just get in touch with us.
When is the practice open?
Therapy sessions take place Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, by appointment.
